Taconic Traffic Stop Leads To Weapon, Drug Charges For 26-Year-Old Man

A traffic stop on the Taconic State Parkway led to weapon and drug charges for a 26-year-old man, police say.

New York State Police say they initiated a traffic stop on a 2001 Honda Civic after observing a violation on the Taconic State Parkway in the town of Milan on Friday, June 28 around 4 p.m.

Further investigation revealed that the driver, identified as Jose Bermudez, 26, of Jacksonville, North Carolina, was in possession of a Beretta Pico .380 auto handgun, approximately 1.2 grams of cocaine and drug paraphernalia, police say.

Bermudez was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a Class C felony
  • Fifth-degree criminal possession of a firearm, a Class E felony
  • Second-degree criminal use of drug paraphernalia, a Class A misdemeanor

Bermudez was arraigned at the town of Milan Court and remanded to Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 secure bond. He is scheduled to return to court on Tuesday, July 2.
